New Propane Irrigation Program Offers Incentives for Farmers and Dealers

PERC initiative highlights potential savings, equipment incentives, and added support for irrigation engine upgrades.

Farmers and irrigation equipment dealers have a new opportunity to explore through the Propane Irrigation Engine Demonstration Program from the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC). The program is designed to encourage adoption of propane-powered irrigation engines while helping collect performance and feedback data from real-world farm use.

According to PERC, propane irrigation engines can help support continuous operation, lower fuel costs, and simplify maintenance. As part of the program, dealers can earn $500 for every new propane irrigation engine customer enrolled after selling a propane engine to a customer who is not currently using propane for irrigation.

The program also connects customers to the Propane Farm Research Program (PFRP), which allows eligible participants to earn up to $10,000 toward a new purchase in exchange for providing performance data and feedback to PERC. That combination of dealer incentive and customer support may make propane irrigation equipment worth a closer look for operations considering an engine change.

PERC also points growers toward additional funding resources that may help offset equipment costs, including the USDA Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency, and the Alternative Fuels and Advanced Vehicles Data Center.

For Minnesota irrigators, programs like this are another example of how energy choice, equipment performance, and cost-share opportunities continue to shape irrigation decisions. Growers and dealers interested in learning more can review the program details and available resources through PERC’s website.
